Today I'm moving to Giza, the place where the Tour d'Afrique starts from. I have been in Cairo for a week now and I enjoyed my stay very much. I love the city but, more importantly, I love its people. I've never before encountered such friendly and helpful people.
The place I stayed here, the Paris Hotel, was the Nile Hilton for me. It had everything to offer that I had needed or wanted or imagined, plus more. Having to run around for visas I was happy to discover that the embassies were within walking distance or easily reachable by subway. The Egyptian Museum is a 5 minutes walk away (and so is the American University of Cairo), the Islamic area and Citadel less than 1 hour walk away (sorry I like exploring places on foot and I'm willing to cope with the traffic and any other issues related to mapping :-) for the pleasure of interacting with people and places) and the yummy food at Felfela is only 3 floors below.
The area is packed with pastry shops and cafes. And this is a huge plus since sweets are very important items on my diet list :-)
I made friends here during this time and I hope to keep in touch with them and come back. I know I will. Good-bye friends, good-bye Cairo!
And to all of you far away across oceans and continents good-bye till next time I'll find an internet cafe. And thank you for your support!
Hoping to entertain or keep you busy until then I have managed to upload some more pictures. The Everest Trek picture album is now complete and there are pictures from Tibet there and China. The Asia chapter is now closed for a while. The African chapter is still to come. Enjoy!
