Open Letter to Santa

For many years I wanted to ask my friends for a favour for Christmas. Instead of spending money on buying me anything, to donate that amount to a good cause. But I never liked asking for favors, and I was too shy to do it. So I never did it. Instead, I went and bought toys and donated them (hard to donate used toys if you have no children :-), I made larger donations and also became a UNICEF global parent.

This year, however, is different. I'm away from home and I might have gained enough confidence to ask for it ... Or at least to ask Santa.


Dear Santa,

There is so much poverty and misery in this world; and so much richness as well. Quite often these live next door to each other. I am fortunate enough to be able to travel and experience some of this. But I hope that I am also fortunate enough to help contribute in reducing the misery. I may not be rich in material goods, but I certainly feel rich in enthusiasm and hope.

May the feelings and the excitement of Christmas make people who have be more generous towards those who don't have, more understanding and more helpful. Dear Santa, can you help make this happen ?

Here is my wish: I would like to be able to raise 1000CDN as a Christmas donation in the fight against malaria. It is a gift not to one, but I hope many many children in Africa (and not only there). It is a gift for them and something we take for granted in our Western world, like many other things.
I do not want all the burden and responsibility be on you, either. There are many voices out there asking you for gifts and wishes to come true. So I will help to my best.

I don't know where I'll be at Christmas time, but under that beautiful Christmas tree that I'll share in thought and spirit with all my family and friends I hope that my wish will come true.
