I think I forgot to mention another characteristics of Egyptians. Generosity. At least when it comes down to food.
The worst dish (and meal) I had in China was a traditional dish called "Bamboo chicken". Unlike you'd expect, the dish does not contain bamboo pieces mixed with the chicken but rather consists of chicken pieces sort-of broiled inside a bamboo stem. The stuffed stalk is barbecued, so the chicken looks and tastes like broiled chicken. Only this chicken was made of just claws, neck, head, some bones and skin and the tips of the wings. This costed almost 10USD. Now that I'm thinking, maybe I was supposed to eat the bamboo...
Today I had a huge and delicious chicken shawarma for little more than 2 USD. I think there was a whole chicken inside. And the wrap was actually a delicate crepe. It was huge. I spent 2 hours in that place to finish my meal. Involuntarily this feast reminded me of the bamboo chicken.
